Children run wild in the wind, screaming as their ankles are bitten by the gusting sand. The beach is abandoned as a storm sweeps in from the south, towels and thongs left to the elements. The first manifestations of summer bring crowds of pasty-white; they search out their slab of rock by the ocean pool as serious goggled-swimmers compete with packs of muscled men wearing footy shorts. Grown men in wetsuits slow in their ceaseless pursuit of the next set-wave and take everything in as the sun breaks through the thick cloud for the first time in a week, splashing colour across everything in its path.
Living by the sea, ones mood often reflects that of the weather. The following photographs are illustrations of just some of the moods of Maroubra Beach, Sydney.
